Each year the membership of the Millsap Neighborhood Home and Garden Club (Area Ladies’ Club) nominates and chooses an outstanding supporter of the causes untaken for the year. This year’s recipient for Woman of the Year is Dianna French. French has worked to raise money, publicize the club, boost membership and foster new ideas and growth in the service of the club to the community since she joined four years ago. She inspired many new fundraising efforts including a Millsap Youth Association concession stand during spring baseball (2018), a Thanksgiving pie order endeavor and Facebook birthday donations to the club. She was also instrumental in adding a silent auction to the annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser.
French retired after 31 years of teaching where she worked above and beyond the call of duty as the Peaster High School athletic director, in various coaching positions including volleyball, track and basketball. She also taught a diverse group of high school subjects, as well as elementary PE and cafeteria duty.
She continues to advocate for students and the community at large in her volunteer efforts. She services on the Campus Improvement committee for Millsap High School and the District of Innovation committee at MISD. She also served on the Long Range Facilities Planning committee. French has served as a board member for the Parker County Hospital District for the past six years, in addition to all she does for the Millsap Neighborhood Home and Garden Club as this year’s vice president.
French can also be called Millsap’s “first lady” as she has worked for years beside our Mayor Jamie French, to present the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and other community activities sponsored by the City of Millsap.
French enjoys time with family and friends, by the pool with grandchildren, feeding the ducks at the pond, family dinners and birthday or holiday celebrations.
