It was an exciting morning for residents and business owners of Willow Park at the official opening for the newly completed Crown Pointe Boulevard Friday morning, which will help increase access and traffic flow.
“This will increase mobility to The Shops [at Willow Park] and it will also increase public safety as access to Texas Health will be vastly improved,” WP City Manager Bryan Grimes said. “This is a project we’ve been working on for about nine months to get completed. It will be a reliever route and it should provide some relief from Mikus Road and our residents who live in the north part of town, they should have increased mobility and access as well.”
The Mikus Road improvement project, which is being done by the Texas Department of Transportation, is estimated for completion in the spring of 2020.
The East Parker County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of Crown Pointe Boulevard, which is between Texas Health Hospital Willow Park and The Shops at Willow Park off the Interstate 20 West service road. The road also goes past the new location for Willow Park Baptist Church, which has not been constructed at this time.
“I would like to give a special thanks to Wilks Development, Jim Martin [local developer] and Willow Park Baptist Church. This wouldn’t have happened without them working together and the city is very grateful,” WP Mayor Doyle Moss said. “This corridor opens up the north part of Willow Park and the eastern park of Weatherford so citizens can get to our hospitals and to The Shops at Willow Parks and for that we’re very grateful.”
Cafe 23:5 owner Denise Deapen said she is excited that the completion of the road will bring in more business to The Shops.
“We’re excited and we believe it’s going to increase our flow of traffic by at least 30 percent,” Deapen said.
WP Mayor Pro Tem Lea Young said the project shows teamwork.
“We’re just very thankful for the cooperation between the developer, the church and the city. I think it just shows that we’re all willing to work together to improve the city and really working hard to get the entire county better connectivity and get all the cities working together in East Parker County.”
