The intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 5 and Interstate 20 in East Parker County will be under construction starting this month.
Work is also underway on I-20 ramps and frontage roads near Aledo’s Farm-to-Market 1187 bridge.
According to Texas Department of Transportation public information officer Bethany Kurtz, the intersection will be reconstructed to add turnarounds and permanent traffic signals.
The work will accommodate the recent conversion of the I-20 east and westbound frontage roads between Hudson Oaks Drive and FM 5 to one way in April.
“The change was made to improve safety and mobility in this growing area of Parker County,” Kurtz said.
The $4 million project will get underway this month and is expected to be complete in 2019.
In Aledo, TxDOT crews started overlay and milling operations on the westbound exit ramp from I-20 to FM 1187 on Thursday, causing the ramp to be closed.
The eastbound ramp will be closed for overlay and milling from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and again on Monday, TxDOT Public Information Officer Natalie Galindo said.
The westbound ramp will again be closed at a future date yet to be determined.
TxDOT encourages drivers to be careful when traveling through work zones, Kurtz said.
“When driving through a work zone, some simple steps to take are: slow down, pay attention, avoid distractions such as cellphones, be patient and plan ahead,” she said.
