One man died as the result of a Interstate 20 East crash that occurred about 2:45 a.m. Monday near the Ranch House Road exit, according to DPS.
“Preliminary investigation indicates a 2017 Kenworth truck tractor that was towing a semi-trailer was disabled, from a prior crash that occurred a few minutes earlier, partially in the roadway blocking the inside lane of eastbound Interstate 20,” DPS Sgt. Richard Hunter said. “The driver of the Kenworth, Francisco Gonzalez Rivera, 45, of El Paso, had exited and was standing beside the Kenworth when a 2017 Toyota Sienna, traveling east, struck the rear of the trailer. The Toyota was occupied by four adults and three children.”
A male passenger of the Toyota, Thinh Nguyen, 35, of Garland, was killed in the accident.
Hunter said the male driver of the Toyota, Dat Nguyen, 32, of Garland, as well as two other female passengers — Thuy Nguyen, 29, and Phuong Duong, 27 — were transported to Fort Worth area hospitals.
“Three children — ages 2, 3 and 4 — were transported to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth,” Hunter said. “The condition of the injured occupants vary from minor to critical.”
I-20 East was shut down for several hours during the investigation and was reopened about 9:20 a.m.
According to an Aledo ISD Facebook post, bus routes were delayed by 30-40 minutes due to the crash and inclement weather.
DPS, Parker County EMS and fire and the Willow Park Police Department worked the scene of the crash.
