After a rainout of its own Aledo tournament the week before, the AHS varsity tennis team competed in the Eagle/Wolfpack Invitational tournament March 1 in Allen.   

Aledo went up against 6A schools Allen, Plano West, Longview and Southlake Carroll, as well as 5A schools Highland Park, Texas A&M consolidated and private school Dallas Jesuit. 

Of these eight schools, all four Class 6A schools made it to the team tennis regional playoffs.

A&M Consolidated was a 5A state semi-finalist and Highland Park is the state 5A team tennis champion.

 Because of inclement weather, the second day of competition was cancelled, but Aledo posted some strong wins during play on Friday.  

In boys’ doubles flight 1, the pairing of Lance McClure and Miles Grubbs beat Highland Park 1-6, 6-1, 10-6 to advance to the consolation finals. 

In boys’ doubles flight 2, the pairing of Kade Robinson and Jax Joiner lost to A&M Consolidated (2-6, 4-6) to play in the third/fourth place match.  

In girls’ doubles flight 1, the pairing of Priscilla Schimming and Erin Davis beat Plano West 7-5, 6-0 to advance to the consolation finals.  

In mixed doubles flight 2, the pairing of John Llewellyn and Tristyn Fambrough lost to Longview-1 1-6, 0-6 to play in the third/fourth place match, while the pairing of  James Young and Allison Dale beat Longview-2 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 to advance to the consolation finals.

In boys’ singles flight 2, McClure lost to Southlake Carroll 6-7(6), 2-6 to play in the third/fourth place match, and in boys’ singles flight 3, Grubbs lost to Highland Park 0-6, 5-7 to also play in the third/fourth place match for his flight. 

In boys’ singles flight 5 Young beat teammate Robinson 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 to advance to their consolation finals.

In girls’ singles flight 4, Olivia Key beat Southlake Carroll 7-6, 6-3 to advance to the consolation finals, and in girls’ singles Flight 5, Katie Siddons beat Longview-2 6-4, 6-4 advancing to the finals to play teammate Concetta Ogden who beat Longview-1 6-2, 6-4.

 Weather permitting, the Aledo varsity tennis team returns to action on Thursday at the Hurst-fest Invitational tennis tournament.
