Aledo High School tennis players, from left, Lance McClure, Olivia Key, Erin Davis, Priscilla Schimming and Miles Grubbs each qualified for regionals on April 17-18 at Texas Tech. 

Aledo High School’s varsity tennis team recently competed in the District 4-5A tournament at Rose Park Tennis Center in Abilene, earning the district runner-up trophy while advancing five players to the Region 1-5A tournament on April 17-18 at Texas Tech in Lubbock.

The top two finishers in singles and doubles at district advance to regionals.

In boys’ doubles, the pairing of Lance McClure and Miles Grubbs earned the district title after a 6-2, 6-3 win in the championship match over Abilene Wylie. 

This is the pair’s third consecutive boys’ doubles district championship. 

In similar fashion, Aledo’s girls’ doubles pairing of Priscilla Schimming and Erin Davis also defeated Abilene Wylie 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 to claim the district title. 

This is also their third consecutive girls’ doubles district championship.

All four advance to the Region 1-5A tournament. 

In girls’ singles, Olivia Key beat Wichita Falls High 6-1, 6-0 in a playback match to finish second in the district and earn a spot at the Region 1-5A tournament as well.

In mixed doubles, the pairing of James Young and Allison Dale lost to Wichita Falls Rider 0-6, 1-6 to finish third, while the pairing of Tristyn Fambrough and Matt Coburn lost to Young and Dale 3-6, 2-6 to finish fourth.
