ALEDO — The Bearcats fought gamely for four quarters Tuesday against a talented Cleburne team, but failed to get enough defensive stops down the stretch to catch the Yellow Jackets. Pulling within six points in the final period after being down as many as 15 earlier in the game, Aledo’s rally fell short as they were defeated by the Yellow Jackets, 51-42.

Shawn Vance helped Aledo’s cause in a big way in the third quarter, hitting four 3-pointers to score all but three of the Bearcats points for the period. Though topping all scorers for the night by pouring in 19 points, Vance was held to five in the final quarter, which proved crucial to the failed comeback bid.

Ethan Anderson and Robert White dominated the boards for the Yellow Jackets and were Cleburne’s high scorers with 16 and 14 points respectively.

Aledo falls to 2-10 in District 8-4A with the loss, and travels to Mineral Wells on Friday. Game time is set for 8 p.m.

Cleburne’s win puts its district record at 8-3, in a second place tie with Stephenville, and is in good shape to make the playoffs.
