The Eastland Lady Mavericks came into Thursday’s Class 3A area playoff match looking to repay the Brock Lady Eagles for a 3-0 loss in the same round last year.
In the end, it was Eastland’s postseason run which came to a close once again, after another 3-0 loss to Brock, this time Thursday evening at Dublin High School.
The Lady Eagles dominated the Lady Mavericks from start to finish, picking up wins of 25-6, 25-14 and 25-15, respectively (similar to the team’s scores versus Eastland in the area round last year; 25-15, 25-8 and 25-18).
Coming on the heels of a 3-2 win in the bi-district round earlier in the week, Brock did well taking lessons from its bout with the Holliday Lady Eagles and applying that knowledge Thursday, Head Coach Mallory Daniel said.
“I think our girls felt prepared,” Daniel said.
“I think they went in more focused than we did in the bi-district round. They knew there was a job to be taken care of, and they went out and played a really good match. We just took care of the job at hand.”
Daniel added that her team gave an improved performance versus Eastland compared to the bi-district round in several areas.
“I feel that we controlled our play better,” Daniel said.
“We earned more points, minimized our errors and in order for this group to be successful, those things have to get done.”
Brock advances to the regional quarterfinals, where it will play the winner of District 7-3A rival Peaster and Jim Ned’s area match, set for noon today at Eastland High School.
