Brock High School’s varsity tennis team took part in its second competition of the spring 2020 season last weekend, coming away with several strong individual finishes at the Robinson HS Tournament.
Head Coach Wesley Kidd said Brock benefitted from great contributions throughout its roster at the abovementioned invitational, a fact which inspired confidence as the Eagles and Lady Eagles continue working through the season.
“We did well in the mixed doubles, we took first and second in the A division,” Kidd said.
“The kids had some close matches, but they were able to weather the storm and pull through. Just about everybody finished at [a minimum] .500 for the tournament, which was single-elimination.
“We had our boys’ doubles make the consolation finals, our girls’ B doubles made the consolation finals and our boys’ singles are playing well. It was a good effort by all the kids.”
Still, Kidd stressed that his team is still experimenting with different player combinations in hopes of finding pairings that accentuate each other’s strengths.
“We’re not sure where we’re gonna play everybody once it comes to district, we’re trying to play with different combinations,” Kidd said.
“We haven’t had everybody out yet, we’ve got a couple that are in other sports, but we’ll mix it up. The kids are competing, that’s the most important thing.
“They’re getting back into playing matches and working through those nerves.”
