Former Weatherford College baseball player Tejay Antone, now with the Louisville Bats, earned International League Pitcher of the Week honors for Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Louisville is the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
Antone went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA for the week, allowing just two earned runs in 14 innings. He walked one batter and struck out nine.
The Mansfield Legacy High School product transferred to Weatherford College from TCU, setting a WC school record with 99 strikeouts in 84 and 1/3 innings pitched in the 2014 season.
Later that year he was selected by the Reds in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball Draft, the highest pick in WC program history.
Antone was called up to Triple-A midway through the 2019 season and is projected to be one of Cincinnati’s top MLB call-up candidates in the 2020 season.
