Lady Roos pound out 15 runs, 19 hits

FORT WORTH — After dropping their first two district games, the Lady Roos have turned things around in a big way.

Weatherford has won four straight district games and seven of their last eight overall after Tuesday’s 15-0 win over North Crowley.

“We’re seeing the ball well, and I’m sure some of it had to do with we were seeing a freshman pitcher,” head coach Phillip Beyer said. “She threw well, just not very hard. We’ve gone up against pitchers like her before, we just didn’t hit them very well — we did tonight.”

The four straight district wins have set up Friday’s game against Mansfield as a big one.

With a win, the Lady Roos will be tied with the Lady Tigers for second place. As it is now, Weatherford stands in third at 4-2, one game ahead of Summit.

“This is a pretty confidence group right now,” Beyer said. “They’re not looking over their should waiting for a mistake to happen anymore.”

Weatherford pounded out a season-high 19 hits Tuesday, seven of which were doubles and one triple.

Brandi Berry, Taylor O’Mary and Linsey Dixon led the Lady Roos with three RBI each.

The Lady Roos spotted starting pitcher Bailey Binion a three-run lead in the top of the first and that was all the senior right-hander would need.

Binion pitched a five-inning shutout of the Lady Panthers, allowing just three hits in the win over North Crowley.

“We’ve also been playing solid defense the past couple weeks,” Beyer said. “If you can hit and play good defense, you can compete with just about anybody.”

Beyer was glad to see the Lady Roos able to put an opponent away early.

“That’s something we’ve focused on lately,” he said. “We want to beat the teams we’re supposed to beat and hopefully we’ll keep rolling through the rest of district.”
