Brock’s Tripp Jones and the Eagles ran away with a 6-1 win over the Bushland Falcons in game two of the teams’ Class 3A regional semifinal series Friday afternoon at Iowa Park High School.

The Bushland Falcons (24-6-1) used a six-run rally in the sixth inning against the Brock Eagles (29-5-1) to steal game one of the teams’ Class 3A regional semifinal series Thursday.

Brock made sure to return the favor Friday afternoon at Iowa Park High School, rallying for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to even the series with a 6-1 win.

Game three starts at 2 p.m. Saturday at Iowa Park High School.

After putting up eight runs in game one, Bushland’s offense was stifled by Brock starting pitcher Carson Lightfoot Friday.

Lightfoot struck out eight while walking two and allowing only three hits.

The Falcons’ offense went three up, three down in four total innings, with the team’s best shot at taking control quickly passing it by in the first frame.

Bushland scored its first and only run on a walk with bases loaded in the top of the first.

With three runners still on the bags (and one out), the Falcons looked poised for another rally reminiscent of Thursday’s.

Instead, Lightfoot earned back-to-back strikeouts after the initial score to bail Brock out of the jam.

After a scoreless three-inning stretch, the Eagles rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a pair of Falcons’ fielding errors, sacrifice fly by Peyton Shaffer and pair of RBI doubles from Tripp Jones and Jase Lopez.

Shaffer’s sac fly for the go ahead score was reminiscent of the Eagles’ final 2019 matchup with Peaster, when the freshman drove in the winning run in the ninth inning.

Bushland’s late-game fireworks on the offensive end were nowhere to be found Friday, with the team managing only a single and walk in the final two innings (no Falcons’ baserunner managed to get past second base during those final two frames).

Jones, Lopez and Tyler Riddle combined for Brock’s three hits.

Caleb Satterfield took the mound in relief in the top of the seventh for the Eagles, earning one strikeout while helping retire the Falcons’ first three batters of the frame.

Falcons’ starting pitcher Seth Homfeld also enjoyed a strong game, finishing with eight strikeouts while walking one in four-and-two-thirds innings pitched.

Fellow Bushland pitcher Cole Mosley took the mound late in the fifth, throwing one strikeout.

Drew Houchin led the Falcons’ offense, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.

Brock finished as a Class 3A state semifinalist in 2018.

Bushland finished the 2018 season in the same round (in Class 4A) it finds itself in now.
