Aledo and Springtown dispatched their respective bi-district foes on Monday to advance to the next round of the state volleyball playoffs. On Tuesday, Brock and Peaster repeated the feat in their respective Class 3A, Region II matches.
Brock had little trouble brushing aside District 12’s Red Oak Life in Midlothian, beating the Lady Mustangs in short order, 25-5, 25-9, 25-9. The Lady Eagles will serve it up against Gunter, the winner of District 10 in the area round on Saturday. Gunter defeated Holliday in their opening playoff contest. The Brock/Gunter match is slated for a 6 p.m. start at Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club.
Peaster, the third seed from the very tough and talented District 11, took to the court against Sunnyvale, the second-place finishers from District 12. Though the games were a bit more contentious, the Lady Hounds took care of business in straight sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 at Mansfield Timberview High.
Head Coach Autumn Threet was excited about getting the first win under their belts.
“We started off strong in [the first game]. Nerves played a role due to our playoff inexperience and being such a young team.”
Sophomore McKenna Ballard led Peaster with 13 kills and 15 assists with freshmen Kennedy Warren and Taryn Cast following with 10 kills and 9 kills, respectively.
The now more playoff-experienced Lady Hounds advance to the area round and will confront District 9 winner Henrietta at Jacksboro High School on Saturday. The afternoon area match will begin at 2 p.m.
In other area-round playoffs this week, Aledo faces Wichita Falls Rider at Jacksboro High on Thursday with a 7 p.m. start. Springtown travels to Bowie High School to play Vernon’s Lady Lions at 6:30 p.m.
