POOLVILLE — The Poolville Monarchs have been waiting since their regular season ended with a home win over Dallas A+ Academy Feb. 6 to start their playoff run.

Saturday, the wait is over when they play the Muenster Hornets at Justin Northwest High School.

“We’re real anxious to get started and to get playing because our district ended so early and it has been a real concern for us,” said Poolville head coach Eddie Farmer. “We hope that we can continue with the intensity we had back in district play.”

The Monarchs have been able to schedule some warmup games to bide their time while awaiting the area-round matchup with Muenster, which Farmer said will be beneficial.

“We feel like our two warmup games were real good for us,” Farmer said. “Obviously, the Lipan game helped us get our intensity back and then playing a very strong state ranked TAPPS team in Nolan Catholic in the preview, we saw some real big, strong, physical kids. Hopefully, that will get us prepared for what we are going to see the next few weeks.”

The layoff also allowed Farmer and his staff to get a good look at their competition, which has allowed them to come up with a solid game plan.

“Muenster is a very physical team and they rely real heavily on their press and a strong man-to-man defense,” Farmer said. “Those are the things that we are real concerned about, making sure that we take care of business with the press and also with their strong, attacking man-to-man defense.

“We feel confident with our ability to score. We have been averaging right around, I believe, 68 points a game and our opponents, we’ve held them to 38. Muenster has been scoring, the best that we can tell, right around 40 a game.

“If we can come out and have a good offensive night, we should be able to outscore them.”

Poolville and Muenster know where they will play, but the when was still undetermined as of press time Thursday night.

“We are planning on having a double-header,” Farmer said. “Some of the plans are contingent on Graford beating Wortham [Thursday night]. If that doesn’t happen, Lindsay and Wortham are going to play in Burleson and it won’t be a double-header, so the time could change.

“Our game will be Saturday at Justin Northwest at 6 or 7:30 p.m.”
