Poolville’s Payton Jennings (3) and Bentley Bryan earned all-tournament honors.

The Poolville Lady Monarchs could not be stopped at last weekend’s Galveston O’Connell Island Invitational, being crowned tournament champions.

Poolville defeated Bryan St. Joseph, 2-0 (25-21, 25-16), Village School 2-0 (25-10, 25-9) and CHSA Homeschool, 2-0 (25-12, 25-21), which sent the Lady Monarchs into the gold bracket Saturday.

Poolville followed up with a 2-1 win (25-13, 19-25 and 15-13) versus Austin Hill Country and a 2-1 win (17-25, 25-21 and 15-8) against Incarnate Word before defeating Tyler Grace, 2-0 (27-25, 25-21) in the championship game.

Lady Monarchs’ Head Coach Kendal Bracy said no single opponent her team faced proved an easy out, while commending her own players for meeting each challenge with equal tenacity.

“Saturday was a day full of tough fought volleyball games within the gold bracket,” Bracy said.

“We were put in situations all day that would prove what we were made of, and our girls showed an incredible amount of grit and toughness and earned every win.

“Our motto this year is ‘Rise Up’ and we were given opportunities every game to prove we really are living by that this year, and when it was necessary every single player did fearlessly rise up.”

On top of the team’s first-place finish, two Lady Monarchs, junior middle blocker Bentley Bryan and junior setter Payton Jennings were named all-tournament selections.
