Weatherford High School’s varsity boys’ soccer team picked up its first District 3-6A win of the season Friday night in Richland, breaking free of a 1-1 halftime tie versus the Rebels with a pair of goals after the break to seal the contest, 3-1.

Weatherford fell behind in the first half, 1-0 after Abilene scored the game’s first goal on a breakaway.

Still trailing by the same margin with roughly 10 minutes left in the half, the Roos responded with a goal of their own after senior Ebake Saidi found pay dirt thanks to a clutch pass from freshman Sammy Delgado.

Still tied at 1-1 coming out of the break, Weatherford quickly went to work taking its first lead, 2-1 after junior Adrian Cruz drove a ball into the back of Richland’s net, assisted by senior Hyrum Harmer.

The Roos further built on their lead thanks to another Harmer assist, who connected with Saidi five minutes later for a 3-1 Weatherford lead, effectively sealing the match.

The Roos host the Hurst L.D. Bell Blue Raiders in a district match at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
