WEATHERFORD — Students at Tison Middle School received a special surprise last week as a reward for their efforts in supporting U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Members of the 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron at Bagram Air Base sent Tison students a thank you letter and photos after receiving numerous gifts from the students on Veterans Day.

In November, students created a banner and cards of support for the soldiers serving in Afghanistan. They also donated $371 to purchase phone cards so the soldiers would be able to call their families.

Contents of the letter received by Tison Middle School are listed below:

“I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for the letters and the phone cards that you sent for our soldiers. I would also like you to know that the phone cards that you sent helped an airman, whose wife had a baby while he was here, call home to talk to his wife and his new baby boy. Sometimes while deployed, a simple phone call home helps us to keep going. This airman, his wife and their son will forever be grateful for your generosity.

Another airman was able to call his son for his 5th birthday, thanks to your gift. Though these may seem like small things, they mean the world to someone when they are half a world away.

On behalf of the men and women of the 774th EAS and their Commander, I wanted to personally thank you. You have made a difference in our lives, and I hope we have made one in yours so that you will never have to make the sacrifices that we have.”

Thank you.
